David Black

worked in the construction field for 14 years before joining Gary Job Corps Center as the Building Construction Technology instructor. He enjoys teaching the basics of multiple industries, from plumbing and electrical to carpentry and painting. David’s goal is that each of his students is prepared to begin an apprenticeship program after completing their Job Corps training.

Carlos Reyes - Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning - Gary Job Corps Center

Carlos Reyes

brings experience in the military to his role as the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) instructor at Gary Job Corps Center. His background taught him how to build rapport among teammates, which he is able to use in the classroom with students. Carlos trains students in HVAC fundamentals, equipment troubleshooting, problem diagnoses and repairs to ensure his students’ employability and success.

Becky Thomes - Medical Administrative Assistant - Gary Job Corps Center

Becky Thomes

is the Medical Administrative Assistant instructor at Gary Job Corps Center. She has experience working in a variety of settings, including a county hospital, nursing home and physician’s office. Becky lived in multiple locations before moving to Gary, Texas, including Honduras, Venezuela, St. Thomas, Aruba, Grand Cayman Island, The Bahamas and Puerto Rico.

Tarliece Battle

has served as Certified Nurse Assistant instructor at Gary Job Corps Center for over 10 years and previously worked in the nursing field for 25 years. Her favorite part of nursing is being able to now teach it. Tarliece also enjoys encouraging students to further their education.

Austin Jones - TCU/IAM Advanced Training - Gary Job Corps Center

Austin Jones

Before joining the Gary Job Corps Center team as the Transportation Communication Union (TCU) instructor in 2017, Austin Jones worked with Union Pacific Railroad for several years. He gained experience in the local railyard industry, held several managerial positions and served as vice local in the union. Austin teaches the railcar, mechanical, welding, conductor and Amtrak curriculum for TCU, and he is passionate about guiding students toward a rewarding career path. 

Gina Patire - Academics and Life Skills - Delaware Valley Job Corps Center

Gina Patire

served as a career preparation period coordinator and outreach admissions counselor at Delaware Valley Job Corps Center before assuming her current role as a MyPACE coordinator for the program. She holds an associate degree in business management and a bachelor’s degree in education and student relations. Gina enjoys making a difference in the lives of the students and staff at Job Corps.

Jeffrey Whitlock - Culinary Arts - Delaware Valley Job Corps Center

Jeffrey Whitlock

,Culinary Arts instructor at Delaware Valley Job Corps Center, brings over 26 years of culinary experience to the program. He previously worked as a certified executive chef, pastry chef, food service director and regional director. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts and hotel management from California Culinary Institute, as well as a pastry certificate from Le Cordon Bleu Paris. Jeffrey looks forward to passing along his variety of experiences to students interested in the field and helping them find success.
