As Job Corps celebrates its 60th anniversary today, Aug. 20, the program is proud to honor seven new Hall of Fame recipients.

Students and leadership from Job Corps campuses across the country honor the diamond anniversary at Leadership Summit in Washington, DC.

On Aug. 20, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Economic Opportunity Act, a centerpiece of his War on Poverty. Along with 10 other major programs, the act established a federal Job Corps program designed to increase the employability of young adults by “providing them with education, vocational training, [and] useful work experience.”

The U.S. Department of Labor has marked the final week of September for Job Corps Signing Day ceremonies across the nation to celebrate new students who have enrolled in the free career training program and taken control of their futures.

Students from the David L. Carrasco Job Corps Center performed exceptionally in the Build-Off Texas High School Welding Series competition, placing on the podium for a second year in a row. 

In honor of Women’s History Month, and in pursuit of expanding workforce opportunities for economically disadvantaged young women, Pittsburgh Job Corps Center held its first Women at Work open house.

Amid more than 66,000 wildfires that burned nearly 7.6 million acres of land across the country in 2022, students in Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers combined to provide 204,633 total hours of support to federal firefighters.

New York City becomes the first major city to enter into a formal agreement with Job Corps.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Jacksonville Job Corps Center recently hosted its first Women’s Career Day.
