Most Heavy Truck Driving graduates work full time for a trucking company. Truckers drive heavy trucks for delivery and help load and unload trucks. Long-haul truck drivers may be away from home for days or weeks at a time.
You will choose between the Heavy Truck Driving – Straight specialty and the Heavy Truck Driving – Tractor Trailer specialty. Upon completing your basic training, students should also consider pursuing Advanced Heavy Truck Driving and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as part of their career pathway.

What you’ll need to start training ...
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
- Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses
- Passing scores on all written and performance tests
- Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
- Have a valid, state-issued driver’s license (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
- Meet age requirements (varies by state)
- Have a physical examination every two years
- Read and speak English
