Chicago, Illinois - colloquially known as the Windy City and the Second City - is the third largest city in the United States after New York City and Los Angeles. Chicago is the largest inland city in the country and, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, it has a population of 2,896,016 people. Classified as a world class city, it is the fourth largest in North America and the seventh largest in the Western Hemisphere. The city itself covers 234.0 square miles, but when combined with its suburbs and eight "collar counties," forming the greater metropolitan area known as Chicagoland, it encompasses more than 5,000 square miles with a population that nears 10 million people. The Paul Simon Chicago Job Corps Center is named after former U.S. Senator Paul Simon and is located in Chicago's Little Village Community. The Center was inaugarated in April 1999 as a state of the art facility with nine buildings occupying 32 acres. Our mission is to provide students with positive, individually tailored training experiences in academics, vocational trades, social skills, employability skills, life skills and other critical areas of social development. Each student has different goals, needs and expectations, and Job Corps is with each student every step of the way. Using the Career Development Services System, or CDSS, Job Corps helps you set personal goals from the very beginning (Admissions) so that you leave with the skills and education that best fit you (Career Transition). |
