Machine Operator

A student who has completed the Job Corps Machinist program is equipped with the skills to contribute to the workplace as a valued employee from day one. Competence in academic and vocational skills is required for graduation. In addition, Job Corps students learn employability and technological skills. To complete his or her Machinist training, a student must master skills in these categories.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION
Demonstrate the ability to properly and safely operate power saws, drill presses, lathes, grinders and milling machines.

MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS
Demonstrate the ability to convert fractions to decimals, dimensions to metric measurements, subtract decimal fractions, match blueprint symbols to their definitions, identify lines on blueprints, identifying machining specs and processes, read blueprints, make sketches of work to be machined, use right angle trigonometry, and use geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

BENCHWORK OPERATIONS
Demonstrate knowledge of safety rules for and proper use of hand tools, grinders and benchwork. Demonstrate ability to maintain hand tools and complete projects using tools.

PRECISION MANAGEMENT
Demonstrate knowledge of proper use of and care for precision instruments.

MACHINING AND REPAIR OPERATIONS
Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate repairs and adjustments to keep machines in working order.
